You will be creating a natural fibre art doll, around 15" tall, under my tutelage and encouragement, in the magical setting of beautiful Edinburgh, UK. We have a secured a lovely well-lit space on the second floor of a heritage building, where I hope magic will ensue.
(Price for the workshop in GBP is 395, converted to USD).
This is an intense 26-hour workshop, in which you will create a natural doll using wool for stuffing, glass beads for weight, high-quality cotton interlock, and mohair yarn for the hair. I will teach you how to construct the head, how to sculpt it, how to add depth and charisma with needle-felting techniques, how to embroider inquisitive eyes and how to weigh it and stuff it to great firmness for a long doll-life.
This workshop is not a beginner workshop, so if you have never made a doll before I recommend you purchase one of my patterns in preparation and to give you a taste for this most special kind of dollmaking.
You will receive a handy list of things to bring (no need for sewing machines), and handwork to practice before attending. This will be emailed to you with plenty of time to practice before we meet.
The price for the workshop includes all the materials you will need to create your doll, I will provide you with sewn body parts and the required tools so that we can get working right away. Price also includes light lunches for Saturday and Sunday, as well as afternoon snacks.
I will send you a selection and recommendation of yarns to choose from for the hair, as well as embroidery threads for eye colour. The skin tone will be selected by me, based on availability from my suppliers. It will be a light colour fabric.
You will go home with a finished doll (hopefully!) and a PDF of all instruction imparted at the workshop.
You are not allowed to take photos or videos during the workshop, as I want your full attention. Please know you are not allowed to use this doll pattern to sell from. You are however highly encouraged to adapt and adopt the techniques taught to you into your own body of work.
I hope that my guidance helps further you on your doll making journey and that you go back home ready to create, move forward and fill this world with the softness and tenderness of wooly souls.
Thank you for entrusting me with your time and attention. It is my hope that my outlook on doll making not just teaches you something new, but that it inspires you to dive within and create from a place of love for this most wonderful art medium.
There is very limited availability, I like to teach in very small groups so I can devote as much time as possible to each and every one of you.
